This was our first year of homeschooling. I LOVE the curriculum we’ve chosen (My Father’s World) and would highly recommend it! Logan did Kindergarten this year, and Brooke did it with us (although being only 2 1/2 when we started, was only ready for some of the activities).
In each lesson, along with the letter and topic of the week, there is a corresponding theme. Each one has been wonderful, and I’ve been able to use them beyond school. One theme was “I obey right away”, another “I use my tongue wisely”.
The last theme was one that really made an impact on me; one that I needed at that moment. The theme was “I don’t grumble or complain; I am thankful”. In this lesson we read the story in the Bible, Numbers chapter 11, where the Israelites were complaining about the manna that God was providing for them on their journey to the promised land. They wanted meat, so God gave it to them… And it killed many of them. God was angry because they weren’t thankful that he was providing.
There are many times in life I find myself wishing for more or complaining about what I have. Maybe I want to take a vacation or buy new curtains for the house. I need to remember to stop complaining and BE THANKFUL for what God has given me! I have more in this life than many people do. I already have curtains for the house… They may not be exactly what I want, but at least I have them! No, I may not have enough money to go on vacation right now, but at least I can pay my bills!
It’s been wonderful to have these little reminders every week… Something to help me grow spiritually while my children grow in the knowledge not only of the world, but of the Lord as well!
