Last weekend, Gary and Logan went with a large group of friends and family from our church on a 4 day hike/camping trip to the Grand Canyon (Havasupai). I was bummed I wasn’t able to go, but my other 3 kids are too young still. It was nice for Gary and Logan to be able to go as a special daddy/son bonding trip, and I got to hear all about it when they got home and share their excitement through pictures. I’m DEFINITELY going to go next time though!

Logan had a blast and loved everything about it. He was the youngest of the group of 29 who went. He hiked the entire thing by himself, with a pack! Everyone was so proud of him and how well he did, and I was too. Apparently his phrase of the trip was, “That’s a ‘bute!” I can’t say I blame him for thinking everything was beautiful… I hiked and camped at this same place when I was 13. I remember the falls and the scenery and their beauty. I have very fond memories of the dogs from the village too… They “adopt” each group for the duration of their trip, bumming food, sleeping with and accompanying them on their daily adventures. When the group leaves, the dogs stay behind in the village and await the next group to join. Tons of fun for a kid like me (and Logan)! On this trip, they also had 2 horses that hung around their camp as well! Fun!
There was no picture taken after they got to the very top. They were worn out from hiking 12 miles in the hot sun (took them 7 hours), and they were ready to hop in the car and get home!
Funny/freaky story… Saturday night they were all having a service. Logan leans over to Gary and says, “Dad, it feels like something is crawling on my leg.” Gary turns on the little flashlight they had and there was a HUGE tarantula crawling up Logan’s leg. It was already to his knee! Gary said he just brushed it off without reacting because Logan looked like he was about to freak out. I would too! Anyway, after that everyone there had their flashlights on, looking around for big spiders. LOL!
