Banana Peels is an online site that sells TONS of cloth diapers and cloth diaper related items, as well as baby carriers, diaper bags and mama cloth, to name a few. They offer great helpful info on their site, such as how to care for wool, information on mama cloth, and a diaper dictionary which tells what all the different diaper styles and diapering terms are! I love the diaper dictionary, and will be utilizing it often as I continue to learn about cloth diapering!
Banana Peels sent us a Weehuggers Hobo wet bag to review. This bag features 2 zippered pockets – one for your wet diapers and one for your clean diapers and/or wipes. Simply zip it up and hang it from a convenient doorknob or hook. This sounded great to me, but I was really intrigued when I read about the wee-be-gone patch that is in the wet bag.
The wee-be-gone patch is a patch sewn in the wet bag that “absorbs the organic compound Trimethylamine” – an ammonia-like gas present in soiled diapers.” It also absorbs other kinds of stink as well, making it perfect for any bag you anticipate needing an odor neutralizer for (like a gym bag)! This patch is washable, and the odor neutralizing properties are renewed when you wash it. Sounds like the perfect product for a cloth diaper wet bag!
I was curious to see if the patch would really work. Connor helped to really test it out the first day we used this bag, having 3 poopy diapers in one day (that never happens)! You know when you open a wet bag to put the next soiled diaper in and that ammonia, dirty diaper stink hits you smack in the face and sometimes about knocks you over? This doesn’t happen with the Weehuggers wet bag! The other wet bags I have work well enough, but man, a day of having diapers in them and I can smell the stinky ammonia smell when I walk into the bathroom, let alone getting that smack in the face when opening it to put more diapers in.
Our test didn’t stop there with those few diapers, however. I gave the Weehuggers wet bag the true test. I let those diapers sit in it for 3 days, while adding more and more diapers to it, and STILL NO STINK, no getting hit in the face with that nasty smell! I was amazed, and I am in LOVE! Aside from being cute, it really works!
I love the prints available and really want the Weehuggers laundry bag now as well. The size of this wet bag works well for us, as I usually wash every other day, but would be nice to have a larger size for those times when I forget or get lazy. However, I love that I can use this size bag for other things once we are done cloth diapering; Pool bag, gym bag, grocery bag, or just a carry all, it is very versatile!
