Back In Fluff: Thirsties Duo Diaper review and giveaway

One of the very first cloth diapers I purchased for Connor was a Thirsties Fab Fitted. I knew we would be cloth diapering, and decided when I saw a good deal on them that I’d better get a few. I knew pretty much nothing about cloth diapers aside from knowing we’d save money using them (and they were CUTE)! I loved the assortment of colors Thirsties offered, and that’s pretty much what I based my purchase on. I later learned that I’d need a cover for these fitted diapers, and was so bummed that I’d have to cover up the adorable diaper! I got a Thirsties duo cover that solved that problem, and discovered just how much I loved the Thirsties brand of diapers!

Thirsties diapers come in 2 sizes to take you from birth to potty training. Size 1 fits babies from 6lbs to 18lbs, and size 2 fits babies from 18lbs to 40lbs! Connor has outgrown the size 1 fitteds I had purchased for him, so when I had the opportunity to try a Thirsties Duo Diaper, I was excited! I was curious to see how I’d like this diaper, and glad to have another Thirsties product in a size that would fit Connor. On the Duo Diaper there are three rows of snaps to adjust the rise, so it’s really like getting three sizes in one!

I was glad that I didn’t have to use a cover with this diaper, as it’s made with a waterproof outer layer to keep moisture in! I could show off the adorable print I chose!

The Thirsties Duo Diaper comes with a Duo Insert. This insert is actually a microfiber insert snapped to a hemp jersey insert. These two inserts combine to make an extremely absorbent diaper! In reading the Thirsties site I learned that “microfiber terry is a fast absorber designed to rest closest to your baby’s skin (beneath the microfleece sleeve); hemp is a stable absorber and pairs perfectly behind the microfiber terry to add more absorbency and to prevent compression leaking.” OK, so I didn’t read this before I put the diaper on Connor the first time, and I had the insert in with the hemp side up. I’m happy to tell you it worked just as well as when I have the insert in properly! Phew! I’m sure it’s due in part to the 7 layers that make up the duo insert; 2 layers of microfiber and 5 layers of hemp. This diaper also has a sleeve for the inserts, meaning I don’t have to remove the soiled insert, and it makes stuffing the insert easy as well. Love that!

The Duo Diaper also has leg-gussets, helping to prevent leaks. Connor napped in the duo diaper (insert upside down as I mentioned), and just after waking up decided to really break in the diaper good; he made quite the poopy mess! Unlike disposables, which often resulted in a blowout up the back, the Duo Diaper kept it all in. I could see exactly where the gussets held everything in and didn’t allow the mess to go any further. What a relief!
