I never used to consider myself a good cook. My mom never did a whole lot of cooking, especially after my parents divorced and my brother moved in with my dad. She and I were both content with a bowl of cereal or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner. Oh yes, it was that exciting. I was never really ‘taught’ to cook or shown by example, and I was perfectly fine with that.
When my husband and I started dating I discovered he was an amazing cook. He cooked for my mom and I most nights, and I figured he’d do most of the cooking when we got married too. After we got married we actually shared most of the cooking, and I was taught by my husband. (I am a pretty mean cook now too, if I do say so myself.) I made him a
cute manly chili pepper print apron for when he cooked/grilled, (he still wears it to this day), and when I felt the need for an apron I used his.
Then we had a baby and I stayed home, and reality came and hit me smack in the face. Now that I was home, there was no reason I couldn’t do the cooking; and so I did, and still do; All this time without my own apron.
When thinking on Mother’s Day and gifts myself and other mothers might like, I immediately thought of aprons. I know most women wear aprons when they cook, and until now I either didn’t wear one, or wore my husband’s manly apron. I was thrilled to find Jesse Steele and see the huge selection of adorable, non-manly aprons!
There were quite a few I loved:
This is the Cafe Toile Josephine hostess apron. While this apron isn’t necessarily meant for wearing when you cook (being as it’s a hostess apron), I still wear it when I cook. 🙂 I love it! I really like the contrasting ties and the pretty print of the fabric. The apron is made from fine, light-weight linen/cotton blend, and features an adorable print inspired from a chic Parisian cafe. It also features a removable black bow on the pocket, as well as adjustable ties at the waist and neck (one size fits all)!
Even in my tee shirt, jean shorts and flip flops, the apron transforms me! Cooking and baking in this makes me feel so much more feminine, which is nice after changing diapers, wiping noses and doing laundry all day! It’s also a nice change from the chili pepper apron of my husband’s that I’d been using! And of course, I love that when company comes over, I can look the part of the put-together hostess.
There are also other kitchen items available that match this apron! Purchase the entire apron set, or mix and match different items such as oven mitt, towel, rubber gloves or totes!
Along with the apron I also received the pretty matching lunch tote! This lunch tote is EVA lined so you can wipe out any mess that may occur if your food spills into it, and features a snap closure. It is made of 100% durable cotton canvas.
I just love my Jessie Steele apron and lunch tote!
Yes, a nice apron (and matching lunch tote, oven mitt, rubber gloves…) is just what every mother needs, and I’m thrilled to finally have one for my own!
