Summer Activity Guide: Find a 4th of July Fireworks Show

summer activity guide02 sm

One thing my kids always look forward to in the summertime is the annual 4th of July fireworks shows!

We live in hot, dry Phoenix, and over the past handful of years it’s been quite a bit more difficult to find fireworks displays around here because of the extreme fire danger. However, every year our local park up the street (Deer Valley Park) does a fireworks display the weekend before the 4th.  There are cold drinks and food for sale, bounce houses and live music for entertainment leading up to the show, and glow swords, necklaces, bubble guns, etc for sale.

During the fireworks show they always play music, sometimes live, sometimes pre-recorded. It’s always so awesome, especially considering it’s free and it’s close! It’s also awesome because it’s held before the actual holiday, so if we want to we can see this show and then check out  more shows ON the 4th of July!

At the Peoria Sports Complex, they have a fireworks show every 4th of July.  We’ve never actually been IN the stadium for the show, since we can park nearby and watch the awesomeness for free, but I’m told there is tons of fun stuff to entertain you there while you’re waiting for the show.  So far we’re thrilled watching a great fireworks display from outside the stadium.  We invite our friends and family, park together across the street, set up our chairs and wait for the show!  Don’t these faces look like they’re having a good time?!

There are other areas in town that also do fireworks shows, though they’re further away and there are always huge crowds.  One day when the kids are a bit older I think we’ll probably brave the crowds to watch, but for now we’re thrilled with the local park and the parking lot at the sports complex!

Be sure and try to find local fireworks displays in your city!  And if you’re local to Phoenix, join us at Deer Valley Park this Saturday, June 30 from 7-9 pm for fun and a great fireworks show!

  1. Awesome fireworks display!

  2. We always enjoy our town's fireworks during their festival. We just park at Rich's aunts and watch from her driveway. Because of where she lives we end up being right underneath them! Lots of fun…no bounce houses or entertainment though. 😉

  3. Watching the fireworks is my favorite part of the 4th of July! 🙂

  4. I wish we could have gone this year. It’s so hard with tiny kids to stay up so late.
