Wordless Wednesday: Haboob blowing in!

This is a typical AZ summer… Haboobs a-plenty! Don’t know what a haboob is?  It’s basically a huge dust storm, miles high and miles wide. We get them often during the summer here.  Here is what it looks like from my backyard:

Check out this article for amazing pics and video of a haboob rolling in.

  1. Haboobs are so interesting and cool looking from afar, but when your in them they can be scary. I have been lucky and not ever stuck in one.

  2. Augh, we get those too. Never heard them called that though- I love it!

  3. How funny! The word…not the storm! We used to get bad dust storms in Oklahoma. The whole sky would turn red-orange from the clay. Best to stay indoors on those days!

  4. Woah! I learned something new today too!

  5. First of all I just love that it is called a haboob…. if I lived near ya I would find myself wanting to use “haboob” in conversation all the time, hehe. I am sure they are not enjoyable for you, but I got a laugh out of the word today – so thank you for that, hehe.

  6. Love that word!! LOL The sky in the top picture really looks neat!! 🙂

  7. It makes me think of a genie when I hear that word!

  8. Oh no! I bet people with allergies do not like that!

  9. I've never heard the term 'Haboob' for a dust storm before! They don't sound like any fun, but they do look neat! 🙂
