Not long ago I saw an ad for Morphology Junior. I bookmarked the site to check back with later because I loved the look of it so much! When they agreed to let us do a review and giveaway for the Holiday Gift Guide I was so excited!
Morphology Junior is a creative, fun game where players use pieces such as glass beads, wooden blocks or string to create words. Various changes in the game might cause you to have to build the word with only 5 pieces, become a piece in the word building attempt, or even make sounds as you build your word in order to help your team guess what you’re creating! There are tons of words available to create, and you can choose between easy or hard words. Hints are even available if you find it necessary with the group you’re playing with (like we did)!
Morphology Junior says it is for 8+ years old. We have an 8 year old, but our others are 6, 5 and 2. If one plays the game, we all play the game, and so we attempted to play with the kids younger than 8. Our 6 (nearly 7) year old did just fine, but our 5 year old did not. He got frustrated very quickly. Lesson learned. Our 2 year old loved playing with the pieces, but of course couldn’t truly “play” the game. He was entertained though! Because of the younger kids, we weren’t able to play the game the way it was meant to be played but we still enjoyed working together and guessing what each person was trying to create. I was amazed at what my kids were able to come up with, and impressed at how my 5 year old was able to guess things that I had no idea about!
This is a fantastic game to keep the kids busy using their imagination (and the adults who are playing too)! I imagine when we take this game to our cousin’s house (with quite a few kids over 8 years old to play), it will be even more fun because we’ll be able to play it as it was intended! It’s a fantastic game for the entire family (ages 8+ remember!). Don’t take my word for it though; Check out all of the awards it’s been given:
Creative Child Magazine: Game of the Year
Parent Tested Parent Approved
Good Housekeeping: #2 of the 12 Great Games for 2012
