My mom has always been a bah-humbug gift person. She likes to give to those she loves, but getting gifts has never been her thing. On occasions when someone insists on giving her a gift, she requests they give to a charity or someone in need and do it in her name.
I LOVE this idea, and the older I get the more I hear others talk about this same thing; giving to others in their name. So when I was contacted by The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation about being featured in our gift guide, I knew it would be a perfect addition.
The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation is a not for profit organization that operates the New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program. The primary mission of the Riverhead Foundation is to preserve and protect our marine environment through education, rehabilitation, and research.
So what gift can you give? Adopt a marine animal! The adoption package includes photos and a story of the animal along with other great information. There are several different packages to choose from, and they make great gifts for children and adults alike.
What I love most of all (aside from the satisfaction of knowing your money is going to help an animal in need), is that when the animal you adopt becomes releasable, you are invited to join the foundation at the release of the animal! How awesome is that?! I would love to be able to witness the release of an animal, especially knowing it was able to get better because of a donation given by me (or in my name). Unfortunately sometimes animals are designated non-releasable so there are a couple in the program that will not be released. If your animal is one of those unable to be released you can still visit them at the aquarium. They are on display until a permanent residence is found for them.
These guys here are still in rehab right now, including a few more. Aren’t they adorable?!
If you’re looking for a perfect gift that you can give to others while helping those in need, look no further. Head over to adopt a marine animal now!
I was not compensated in any way for this post. This is a cause I am thrilled to share with you and hope you will consider supporting them through a gift this Holiday Season!
