We love to have BBQ hamburgers on a regular basis. Living in Arizona gives us the privilege of great BBQ weather year-round, so we take advantage. I have been making the burgers for as long as I can remember, and they’re always very juicy and flavorful. They’re always a hit with whomever we make them for, so I decided to try and measure out the ingredients so I could share this recipe with you. When my oldest son saw me measuring, writing and taking photos, he asked why I was going to blog about hamburgers. “Everybody knows how to make hamburgers mom!” Yeah, everybody knows how to make hamburgers. However, so many people I know merely buy the patties pre-made and season them with some salt and pepper and call it good. Gag. Give me something with some real flavor! Here’s how I make mine:
- 3 pounds of ground beef
- ¼ cup BBQ sauce (use your favorite!)
- 2 tablespoons Montreal Steak Seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- Place all ingredients in large mixing bowl and lightly mix until combined
- Form patties to your desired size (remember it will shrink down a bit when it cooks) handling the meat as minimally as possible. (Too much handling causes poor consistency and can make the burger mushy)
- Grill for about 5 minutes on each side, until well done (less if you want your burger more rare)
Enjoy (and let me know what you think)!

I’ve never tried making a BBQ burger before. We love to grill and my family would probably like this! I’ll have to give it a try!
Thanks for this recipe. I am not good at cooking, and some recipes are too complicated to follow when you have an exhausted mom coming home from working to a 4 month old and trying to cook dinner, thanks for the great tasty and easy recipes!
Thank you for doing this! Tell your son not everyone knows how to make hamburgers. I am not a big beef fan so it is hard for me to know. My husband is a HUGE beef eater and will appreciate me having a recipe to follow
Alesha – a very good one for Food on Friday, thank you.
Gosh, look at how juicy this looks. I have used BBQ sauce in making meatloaf before and that was awesome. Now I need to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!
Never tried a BBQ burger at home, but I love the fast food ones. Think we’ll try these.
I’ve never tried bbq sauce in the hamburger sounds interesting and delicious.
