Recipe: Juicy BBQ Hamburgers

We love to have BBQ hamburgers on a regular basis.  Living in Arizona gives us the privilege of great BBQ weather year-round, so we take advantage.  I have been making the burgers for as long as I can remember, and they’re always very juicy and flavorful.  They’re always a hit with whomever we make them for, so I decided to try and measure out the ingredients so I could share this recipe with you.  When my oldest son saw me measuring, writing and taking photos, he asked why I was going to blog about hamburgers.  “Everybody knows how to make hamburgers mom!”  Yeah, everybody knows how to make hamburgers. However, so many people I know merely buy the patties pre-made and season them with some salt and pepper and call it good.  Gag.  Give me something with some real flavor!  Here’s how I make mine:

BBQ Hamburgers

Serves: 6-8

Ingredients
  • 3 pounds of ground beef
  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce (use your favorite!)
  • 2 tablespoons Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in large mixing bowl and lightly mix until combined
  2. Form patties to your desired size (remember it will shrink down a bit when it cooks) handling the meat as minimally as possible. (Too much handling causes poor consistency and can make the burger mushy)
  3. Grill for about 5 minutes on each side, until well done (less if you want your burger more rare)

Enjoy (and let me know what you think)!

  1. I’ve never tried making a BBQ burger before. We love to grill and my family would probably like this! I’ll have to give it a try!

  2. Thanks for this recipe. I am not good at cooking, and some recipes are too complicated to follow when you have an exhausted mom coming home from working to a 4 month old and trying to cook dinner, thanks for the great tasty and easy recipes! 🙂

  3. Thank you for doing this! Tell your son not everyone knows how to make hamburgers. I am not a big beef fan so it is hard for me to know. My husband is a HUGE beef eater and will appreciate me having a recipe to follow 🙂

  4. Alesha – a very good one for Food on Friday, thank you.

Gosh, look at how juicy this looks. I have used BBQ sauce in making meatloaf before and that was awesome. Now I need to give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

  6. Never tried a BBQ burger at home, but I love the fast food ones. Think we’ll try these.

  2. […] Meeting my husband Gary opened me up to so many tasty foods I never realized we could actually make at home.  For instance, before him I had no idea how to make french fries at home from scratch.  When we first got married we made them all.the.time, deep fried and salty as we could stand. SO good, but so bad for us, which is why we decided we needed to quit making them.  Every once in a while we get a craving for them, but since having kids and trying to be sure to feed them healthier meals, I wanted to find a quick, easy, tasty way to bake them rather than deep fry them.  I found a great way on Instructables to speed up the baking process (because let’s face it, I don’t always plan ahead far enough to give an hour or more of prep and bake time), and threw together some spices.  Now we have a quicker way to make delicious baked french fries when we want them, like with our tasty Juicy BBQ Hamburgers!
