I’m sure most of you are familiar with the School Zone line of products, as they’re carried at most retail stores. They offer tons of workbooks, flashcards, and software to help educate your child, while making it so much fun your child may not even realize they’re learning!
Being as it’s summer, most kids are on summer break. Even though we homeschool, we’re also enjoying summer break. However, I’ve made it a point to keep my kids doing fun learning activities throughout the summertime; I want to be sure to keep their brains active in learning and help them retain the things they’ve learned through the year!
These couldn’t have come at a better time, since we had a road trip planned which included over 20 hours of drive time! And with over 300 pages in each book there would be plenty to keep them busy during those many hours.
Although the kids saw the books before we started on our trip, I made sure to keep them out of reach until we were on our trip. I waited a bit for them to get tired of the same ol’ activities and begin the complaining; these books were my sanity life saver! As soon as I mentioned the School Zone workbooks the kids couldn’t wait to get their hands on them! (Please excuse the poor photo quality- it was rough getting good pictures while we were driving in the car.)
For the next few hours the kids busied themselves with mazes, search and find pages, crossword puzzles, word searches and more! Since we have 3 school aged kids and we had 2 books, I set a timer. You’d think 10 minutes of waiting for their turn was hours long; they just loved the workbooks so much! You can imagine the relief it was for me to have these ready to give to them when everything else failed. I’m so glad I ‘saved’ the workbooks!
Since we’ve been home the kids have still enjoyed the workbooks.
They’ve been great for entertaining them throughout the day and at church as well. Again, they get tired of the same books and coloring books we bring them to keep them entertained through the church services, and these workbooks have helped break up the monotony, (especially for my 5-year-old, who is too young to be able to sit and follow along through the entire service).
AND, the Big Puzzle Play workbook came with computer software. “Puzzle Play Word Searches Software – The kid-friendly approach of Puzzle Play Word Searches turns your computer into a puzzle-making machine. Dozens of word searches expand vocabulary and overall knowledge and improve spelling skills. Identify words horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Choose from 12 different themes ranging from Insects to the Solar System, and then pick ‘Easy Puzzle’ with five words or ‘Hard Puzzles’ with ten words. Click ‘Shuffle’ to change the word list and rescramble the puzzle at any time. Click on unfamiliar words to hear them pronounced. The more kids play, the more words they’ll know and the faster they’ll be.” What kid doesn’t love video games? What parent doesn’t love when their kids are learning? The Puzzle Play Word Searches Software is a perfect combination!
We’ve also enjoyed the flash cards at home. Flashcards have always been something my kids enjoy, and I feel they really have made a difference in helping my kids retain what they’ve learned. These flash cards help kids practice multiplication facts 0-12 and come in bold, bright colors to make it more appealing. They work great for my 2 older kids- who just finished 4th grade and 2nd grade- since they cover such a range of difficulty.
If you’re looking for something to keep your kids brains active in learning through the summer while keeping them happy at the same time, then School Zone workbooks are your answer. They’re also a great tool for getting ready to go back to school, which will be here before you know it! Check out School Zone for their available products, and be sure to check out your local retail store for School Zone books too!
