Happiness Is

happiness isI’ve had a burden on my heart lately.  A recent sermon and some thoughts from a sister in Christ added to what had been on my heart.  Here’s the gist; true happiness isn’t found in selfishness or fulfilling our own wants and needs.  True happiness is found in serving God and serving others.

As a society we tend to be so focused on fulfilling our own desires that we fail to see the bigger picture; life isn’t about ME and MY WANTS, it’s about living a life for Christ, a righteous life following after his example.

Last Christmas I shared a post about giving back, and the Christmas before that I did the same by way of a much needed reminder.  Doing something for someone in need felt GOOD.  Not long ago I had a chance to do something easy and nice that made someone else’s day. It felt GOOD and it made me happy knowing they’d be happy.

Think about it; how often have you done something for someone else and found joy in the giving?  Be it bringing dinner to a friend in need, over- tipping your server, or mowing your neighbor’s lawn, it feels good to offer a helping hand, make someone’s day or even someone’s minute.  It’s fun too!  Have you ever done something anonymously for someone?  There’s no need to be acknowledged for your actions, just the mere joy in doing it is enough.  And even greater than that joy is the reward you’ll receive from God by doing so.  After all, He calls us to do it, right?

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Galatians 5:13 …by love, serve one another.

Matthew 22:37-39 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Mosiah 2:27 …ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another.

Find a minute today to do good for someone else… It may change your life!

  1. A great reminder! Thanks Alesha 🙂

  2. Rebecca says:

    Thank you for this!

  3. I try to teach my children to give back through monthly missions. It is very difficult in a society that views so much as disposable and places such a high value on having things. Thank you for this.

  4. One way my family gives back is through taking meals to family’s who are in need from our church I just wish more people in our church did the same because there are only a couple of us that do it when we say we will and others who say they will and never do…we try to teach our children about giving and ways that they can help in the community as well..

  5. Alesha,
This post was just what I needed to read today! Thanks for the great reminder of serving others!

  6. Thanks so much for posting this reminder. We do get caught up in “me, me, me” a lot of times. I think I need to have a talk with my kids and see what we can come up with. Thanks 🙂

  7. I love this, such a great reminder and just what I needed to hear today. Thanks 🙂
