I’ve got several friends having babies soon, which I love! I will get to hold a newborn again without having to have one of my own; and my daughter gets to have friends close to her age. A win win in my book. Lots of babies on the way means lots of baby showers, not to mention the upcoming holidays. So lately I’m on the look out for baby shower gift ideas. I usually tend to shy away from the clothes, even though they are SO adorable. But everyone loves to buy tiny baby outfits and the mom to be ends up with plenty of those. I prefer to give something not quite as cute, but functional. I’ve been blessed with great family and friends who have given me wonderful baby showers, and while I always loved the super cute teeny tiny outfits, I really appreciated the things I could use over time and were more needs than wants. But every once in awhile you stumble across something that is both useful and sure to draw the coveted, “Awwwww”, from the crowd when it’s opened (because it’s so stinkin cute!)
The classic musy mate lovey from aden+anais is one of those gifts, functional yet meets the cuteness criteria too. It’s functional because every baby needs toys, and if you just look at it you see it’s got cute covered too. Toys are important because they stimulate development and can also offer comfort to help babies self soothe for better sleep. My son was a very fussy baby and did not sleep through the night until he was almost a year old…not fun! One of our pediatrician’s first recommendations when I found myself at my wits end was to get him some kind of “lovey”. Her description of what we should look for to help him soothe himself back to sleep during the night was the musy mate lovey to a tee. She even called it a lovey. I figure as a pediatrician who has seen many children over the years she has seen what does and doesn’t work for babies. So if her first suggestion is a lovey, then it’s probably a pretty good one, and something that might be nice to have around with a baby in the house.
Luckily my daughter is as mellow as they come and has been sleeping through the night like a champ since she was a couple months old, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t appreciate having her very own lovey. We received the puppy – princess posie classic musy mate lovey, and I think we were both pretty excited to open the package it arrived in. Like every other 8 month old she’s as curious as they come, and if you’re doing something she wants to be a part of it. As I ripped open the package she was right there trying to “help” me and got that new toy in her hands as soon as possible. Toy in hand she had a huge smile on her face, well there’s pretty much always a smile on her face so that’s nothing new, but she clearly liked her new little puppy. I had seen the item online before it arrived, but it was even better in person. That’s always a bonus. I’ve been burned by online purchases in the past that didn’t measure up to their description, but I wasn’t disappointed with this. The colors were bright and the stitching high quality. I discovered that each lovey is handmade and machine washable, and of course made of soft cotton muslin. I can feel confident knowing what my daughter is playing with is made of all new materials with sturdy construction. No worries of it falling apart any time soon.
As I said earlier I’m on the lookout for baby shower gifts, and this is something I would definitely consider giving. Cute and functional, who can go wrong with that?
