American Girl Dolls- My American Girl Review | 2013 Holiday Gift Guide

One gift idea that I know I can never go wrong with for my daughter, Brooke, is a doll.  American Girl not only makes beautiful dolls, but their aim is to celebrate girls and all that they can be. They develop products and experiences that help girls grow up in a wholesome way, while encouraging them to enjoy girlhood through fun and enchanting play.  Be it a doll from the American Girl character line, a My American Girl doll, or the Bitty Baby dolls, you’ll find the perfect doll for your little girl.

I chose a doll from the My American Girl line because I wanted to be able to customize a doll for her, to choose the color and length of hair, and the color of eyes. I also loved that Brooke would be able to bring her doll to life online at Innerstar University, the virtual campus just for girls and My American Girl dolls.

I knew Brooke would love whatever I got her, but I was so happy to see how thrilled she was to get this doll.

ThrilledShe named her “Faith”, a perfect, beautiful name for this gorgeous doll.

True Spirit OutfitEach My American Girl doll comes with the following:

  • An 18″ doll with a huggable cloth body, eyes that open and close, hair that can be styled, and a movable head and limbs made of smooth vinyl
  • A True Spirit Outfit: a pink tee with tone-on-tone print, a flared skirt with a double-ribbon belt, pink underwear, and tall boots
  • A charm-keeper necklace to hold her collectible charms (get a charm with every My American Girl® outfit!)
  • Codes that give your girl full access to online play at innerstarU.com: a fun, enriching, safe online world created just for girls and their My American Girl® dolls

Of course we had to get Faith a gorgeous holiday dress, so we chose the Brocade Holiday outfit.  This outfit comes with a cream-and-gold brocade party dress, featuring a velvet ribbon and mesh rosettes at the waist, a matching flower-trimmed headband, cream-colored tights, golden shoes, and a “Kind” heart charm for the doll’s charm-keeper necklace.

Brocade OutfitBrooke had to get a dress to match Faith, of course.  She was so excited to find one that matched pretty closely.

Brocade DressMatchy- MatchyDon’t they look adorable? As awesome as the dress we found is, we may end up having to get her the matching Brocade Holiday outfit for girls from the American Girl website. Yes, you heard me right; American Girl sells outfits for girls that match the outfits their American Girl dolls have! Isn’t that awesome?!

I have to tell you, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Brooke so into any gift before.  Faith goes with her everywhere.  Brooke puts her in a doll car seat when we go in the car, but any time her little brother happens to not be in the car when we go somewhere, Faith gets buckled into his 5-point harnessed car seat.

In car seatWhen Faith comes to church with us, Brooke has her dressed in her Brocade Holiday outfit. And when church is over and Brooke changes into her play clothes, so does Faith.  Brooke even utilized the box Faith came in and made it into a bed.  When Brooke goes to bed so does Faith, and Faith’s bed is set up right next to Brooke’s bed, within reach.  Since Faith’s eyes close when you lie her down, it really does look like she sleeping too! 🙂

  1. OMGosh that’s such a pretty doll, and I can’t believe how much it looks like her!

  2. That doll is adorable. I always wanted an American girl doll. I read the books and loved them, but I never got a doll. I have a feeling my daughter will be getting one.

  3. Oh my gosh she looks thrilled!! What a stunning doll (and girlie too!). These are so popular and will continue to be because they are amazing!

  4. I love the gorgeous dress! I am sure Annabelle will be really into American Girl soon, it’s still a little early (she just turned 3), but she is a huge fan of dolls. I love the quality of American Girl.

  5. Oh my goodness that is just darling. Brooke is a very good doll mommy! And I love that she changes her clothes after church. My oldest daughter would love a My American girl doll!

Indeed the AG doll made your daughter very happy.

But for people on a tight budget, their local Target or Walmart offers some 25-30$ 18″ dolls. The Madame Alexander doll at Walmart is quite beautiful.

Target carries several moderately priced 18″ doll furniture, accessories. Joann Fabrics has 18″ doll and clothed…which can be bought for half price (about $12 currently).

Still, if one can afford an Ag…they’re quite beautiful. And my daughter loved the moderately priced historical books. The 1812 historical doll Caroline has a quality book series.
