Make Your Own Candy at Home with Nostalgia Electric’s New Gummy Candy Maker- Review and #Giveaway | 2013 Holiday Gift Guide

logoWe were sent the following for review purposes. All thoughts expressed are my own.

My kids are always excited when a review package arrives at the door, but I’m not sure they were as excited about anything else- as a whole- than they were when they saw the Gummy Candy Maker from Nostalgia Electrics. They LOVE gummies, and the idea of making their own at home whenever they want was beyond cool to them.

Nostalgia Electrics Gummy Candy MakerThe Nostalgia Electrics Gummy Candy Maker allows you to make worm, fish, and small gummy bear candies with the included silicone molds, or make a giant gummy  bear candy using the large gummy bear mold.  Assemble the unit as instructed, (filling the bases with ice before placing molds on top), then simply follow the given instructions on how to mix your gelatin to create your desired gummy candy (sour, vitamin, energy, or regular).

assemble mixtureUse the gelatin pots (2 included) and heat the mixture over the central heated base.  When ready (a few minutes of heating) pour into the molds and wait for the candy to set up!

pourIt took about 15 minutes or so before we were able to get them out (the fish and worms were easier since they aren’t as thick and set up faster), but I only did a few so the kids could try them.  We waited a bit longer for the rest, and those came out great!

gummiesAs you can see, we made two different kinds (2 batches). Both were made sour because the kids really love the sour ones. I thought they were pretty good, but the kids loved them. One batch filled most of the 4 trays.  Though we made 2 different kinds- to be able to get a feel for how it worked and to try multiple flavors- I liked the amount one batch made (not all are pictured in the photo above); it was enough to be able to enjoy, but not too much that we had tons left over.  And since it doesn’t take too terribly long to make a batch, I don’t feel the need to make tons at a time so we have them around. 🙂

yummy gummiesI am looking forward to trying more recipes and tweaking them to make them perfect.  The kids are more excited to be able to make the giant gummy bear next.  Since my father-in-law is a huge fan of gummy bears, my husband thought it might be fun to make him one as a gift.  I think that’s a great idea!
