Mopping is one of my least favorite chores to do (next to folding laundry, ugh) but with 4 kids and a dog, it’s a must do more often than I’d like to.  With my new Shark Steam and Spray Mop, mopping my floors just got a lot more fun!

The minute the Shark Steam and Spray Mop arrived I was excited to use it, and took it right out of the box. My floors were in desperate need of some help, and the box said all of the right things:

steam mopMesses are abundant in our house, and though every bit of tile gets messy from the kids, no other spot is worse than under the countertop where the kids eat their breakfast on the bar stools.  I was curious to see how well the Steam and Spray Mop would tackle the mess.

The mop came in two pieces which snapped together very easily.  I added the batteries (which came with the mop), poured the water in the proper place, popped in the bottle of cleanser, plugged it in and I was on my way to cleaning my tile floors!

add waterThis mop has 3 modes of cleaning;
-Spray mode (the need for the batteries) where you can simply press a button on the handle which sprays out water onto a mess and then can be mopped up, no need to plug in the power cord. Additionally, the power cord is removable so you don’t have to drag it around while you spray and mop; you can go cordless!
-Steam mode, allowing you to plug in the mop and sanitize with the super-heated steam and offers up to 99.9% sanitization, killing germs and bacteria such as e-coli, staph, and salmonella, and kills 99.9% of the virus that causes H1N1!
-Steam & Spray mode, which combines the power of steam and cleanser.

The cleanser is non-toxic, biodegradable, and safe around kids and pets, so I know my floors are getting super clean without worrying about it harming my family. Plus, it leaves floors cleaner with no dulling residue.

Since I had quite the mess, I knew I wanted to use the cleanser when I mopped.

The Steam and Spray comes with 2 SaniFiber pads (a disposable pad with the cleaning performance of washable microfiber pads) and one microfiber washable pad, and has three steam settings which are ideal for different floor surfaces and specific cleaning needs. So far I’ve only used the washable pad.  It attaches to the mop with velcro, so I literally place the pad on the floor, place the mop on top of the pad and it’s securely fastened with the strong velcro.

There is a setting specifically for the SaniFiber pads, and then a ‘mop’ and ‘scrub’ setting.

Steam controlsSince I have tile floors the mop or steam settings work for them, but as my floors were a crazy mess I opted to go with the scrub setting.  The simple press of a button got me to the right setting.  It took only a few seconds for me to hear and then see the steam, so I knew I was good to go.  I love that it started steaming as soon as I plugged in and put it on my desired setting, rather than having to find another button to push or hold down a steam button.

I was pleased with how smoothly the Steam and Spray moved across my floors. It wasn’t heavy, and the swivel steering made it super easy to maneuver around and underneath furniture and corners.

The cleaner has a mild, pleasant smell to it, and when I was finished I stepped back to see the results; I was stoked!

before and afterI was really pleased at how little work I had to do to get my floors clean, and how fast it went too!

The pad was plenty dirty, and I wanted to wash it right away.

dirty microfiber padI was happy to see that Shark thought ahead and knew some of us would rather not touch the dirty, hot pad, and so they added a spot to the pad on which you could step on it and lift the mop up to release the strong velcro seal. Then I just grabbed the tag and tossed it into the washer!

removable padNow that I have the Shark Steam and Spray Mop, mopping seems to take half the time and do twice as good cleaning as my other mops did.  Plus, with the convenient cordless spray mop option, spills are less of a frustration now, and the floors stay cleaner longer.

While some may think giving a mop as a gift isn’t the best idea, I’d have to stand on my soapbox and shout to the hills that THIS mop would make a fantastic gift anytime, be it Christmas, birthday or otherwise.  Trust me, having a mop that does a fantastic job cleaning floors and does the awesome job in nearly half the time is almost like two gifts in one; the gift of a great cleaning mop AND the gift of time. You’re welcome! :)

I have seen this before, but wasn’t sure whether or not it would really work, or it it was too good to be true. So glad to find that it isn’t . I wish someone would have gifted me one!

  2. I have a steam cleaner, but it is so big and heavy to move around. I like how simple this is, and it seems so easy to move around…surely need it with four kids in the house.
