I’m Participating in the Listerine 21-Day Challenge! Join Me & Find Out How You Can Help Children in Need!

Listerine 21 Day ChallengeI received a Target gift card to purchase LISTERINE® Brand products from Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the LISTERINE® 21-Day Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own.

So I’m participating in the Listerine 21-Day Challenge, and while I’d be excited about it most any time I’m even more excited about it now.  Why? Because I’ve embarked on a new adventure in life- the adventure of adult braces in the form of Invisalign. For those of you unfamiliar, this requires me to wear clear ‘aligners’ (kinda looks like a mouthpiece but thinner) on my top and bottom teeth for 22 hours a day.  I literally take them off to eat, then brush, floss and put them back on.  You can imagine wearing them for 22 hours a day could make my mouth feel less-than-fresh, especially if I’m not good about brushing and flossing.  While I’ve been dedicated and following the rules to the tee (read: brushing and flossing religiously), I still want to be sure that I am using products that will make my mouth feel as fresh as possible.  Right now I don’t use mouthwash, and I’m a creature of habit and have stuck to my favorite toothpaste but honestly, I had no idea Listerine made toothpaste. I’m excited to try that out too, and see what a difference I feel in the freshness and cleanliness of my mouth, as well as the appearance of my teeth and gums.

As for the rest of my family, I’m anxious to get them started too. My husband takes pretty good care of his teeth, but admittedly gets lazy with flossing.  My kids are your typical kids; they aren’t thrilled about taking the proper time to brush and floss their teeth.  We resorted to buying the toothbrushes that count down the minutes and that helped, but they still get lazy.  It worries me since I know how important it is to take care of your teeth. I want them to learn good habits while they’re young so when they’re all grown up and have their adult teeth (the teeth they’ll have forever!) they don’t have issues. They are really excited about taking the Listerine 21-Day Challenge because that means they get to use the LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® (with the exception of my youngest, who is only 3 and therefore too young to use it).  I’m hoping this added product in their oral care routine will help them get a bit more excited about taking care of their teeth.

Take the Listerine 21-Day Challenge

Even if you’re not wearing braces like me you want to keep your mouth as fresh as possible, which is why you should join us in the Listerine 21-Day Challenge! Why 21 days? Because according to research it takes only 21 days to form a habit. Good oral care is a good habit to have!! For the next 21 days you’re challenged to brush, floss, and rinse with LISTERINE® Antiseptic twice a day. Let’s see how much fresher your mouth feels, and how much healthier your teeth and gums are!

Did you know that brushing misses 75% of your mouth? With the simple addition of  swishing with LISTERINE® Antiseptic for 1 minute a day, you can help that!  Add in flossing and brushing regularly and you’re good to go. Your mouth will thank you (and your dentist will be thrilled too)!

Another incentive in joining the Listerine 21-Day Challenge is that you can help children in need! For every person who posts a “Swish Selfie” to LISTERINE® Brand’s Facebook page, LISTERINE® Brand will make a $5.00 contribution to Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America® program, up to $85,000, toward their goal of connecting 210,000 children with needed oral health services in 2014!

Head over to your local Target and find the oral care aisle to purchase the necessary products. We’ll be using LISTERINE® WHITENING® Original Gel Fluoride Anticavity Toothpaste, REACH® Floss, and LISTERINE® Antiseptic, and the kids will be using the  LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® (antiseptic for kids 6+).

21 day challenge productsThen head over to the LISTERINE® Brand Facebook page to learn more about the challenge, the partnership with Oral Health America, and check out a roundup of the best “Swish Selfie” photos of the week.

I will be sharing our results of the challenge next month, so make sure you come back to see how we did!

  1. Good luck with the challenge! My boys brush twice a day, but they aren’t good flossers and I need to get them mouthwash! I love that Listerine is donating so much money to such a great cause, too!

  2. Good luck on the challenge! That is so wonderful that they are helping kids in need!

  3. Good luck with the challenge 🙂 I have been wanting Invisalign for a couple of years now!

  4. I use Listerine daily and it’s a great product. I love how fresh my mouth feels after I use it!

  5. Good luck with you challenge! You can do it. My dentist always says it’s vitally important to use a mouthwash to prevent gum disease. I’ve been following his advice (most nights).

  6. I wish misaligns would have been an option when I was a kid. But then I wouldn’t have had color options for my bands!

  7. Good luck on your challenge. I never knew that it was 21 days to form a habit. I am okay at remembering to floss – I miss night time more than morning time.

  8. I am on my last bottle of Listerine Vanilla Mint Mouthwash, and I am SO sad because you cannot buy it any more and it is the easiest flavor to swish around with, LOL. I’m going to have to find an alternative flavor I guess, that doesn’t burn the inside of my mouth like some of them do 😉

  9. I love that Listerine is doing the Swish Selfie for a great cause, such a good idea. I practice pretty good oral care but I do need to floss regularly.

  10. I need to do this 21 day challenge! After being snowed in for the last few days my dental hygiene needs some extra care!

  11. Only 21 days to form a habit? I could use that in other areas of my life. I do need to get back to using a mouthwash daily. I cannot stand the taste and only do it about 3 times a week – but I know daily would be much more effective!

  12. We’re doing the challenge too! Love that other children can benefit from this program too.

  13. I should probably do this. I have never tried listerine, but would totally give them a try. Good luck!

  14. I really do need to get better about the rinsing. I don’t know why I always forget that part. I guess I should put it on the counter!

  15. Good luck with the invisiline. My daughter has a friend who is doing that and it seems to be working very well for her.

  16. Good luck with the challenge. My kids prefer a rinse and floss to brushing. Weirdos!

  17. My boys use the Smart Rinse it’s the only mouth wash I can get them to use… we have tried others but they hated them…

  18. That’s a really great cause. My little guy is great at brushing teeth, but not so much on the flossing or rinsing. We really have to work on that.

  19. Good luck! I’m great about brushing but now about mouth wash or flossing

  20. Listerine is GOOD. I had to use it forever when I had my tongue pierced any moons ago, it was the only brand they recommended to fight off any germs. I no longer have that piercing but have found Listerine to be the strongest and by far the best in keeping mouth clean!

  21. Eliz Frank says:

I hope the challenge is going well… All of us should join in.. healthy teeth = healthy heart.

  22. I am participating in this challenge and I am excited to be participating and about helping children in need get good oral care.

  23. Honestly I am laughing at, I didnt know Listerine made toothpaste…..now that I think about it I don’t think I knew either. Anywho goodluck on this challenge.

  24. We love Listerine! It’s the only brand I buy! Good luck in the challenge!

  25. I love Listerine! It’s a staple in my home. We try to brush, floss, and use mouthwash regularly, but sometimes things just get past us. 21 days is all that is needed to develop a good habit, so keep up the good work, mama!

  26. I love Listerine mouthwash- it makes me feel like my mouth is fresh. I didn’t realize they had toothpaste as well.

  27. I love listerine mouthwash. no clue they had toothpaste. i have to check that out.

  28. This is a great challenge! I hope that you get your kids into taking care of their teeth better. I know it was difficult with mine too!
