I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Lay’s. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
At our house we love a good potato chip with our lunches, and certain dinners- like Juicy BBQ Hamburgers– definitely require (yes, I said require) potato chips. We LOVE Lay’s Potato chips best, and we’re so excited to be sharing the Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest!
The Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest invites fans nationwide to submit their ideas for the next great Lay’s potato chip flavor for the chance to win a $1 million grand prize (See Rules here). A judging panel made up of chefs, foodies and flavor experts will narrow down the contest submissions to four finalist flavors. The four finalist flavors will then be fully developed by Frito-Lay’s culinary experts and unveiled in summer 2014 and sold nationwide. From there, it will be up to fans to vote for the finalist flavor they want to see stay on store shelves, and the finalist behind the winning flavor will take home the grand prize.
I KNOW you’ve got to have some great flavor ideas! My kids and I saw this contest a few weeks ago when we purchased a few bags of Lay’s. That afternoon- while we ate our chips with lunch- we came up with multiple ideas for new chip flavors.
My daughter suggested orange chicken, my middle son would love to see a caramel strawberry chip, and my oldest son (a seafood lovin’ kid) suggested cajun shrimp pasta. My youngest didn’t quite understand, but he loves PB&J so I’d be willing to bet he’d eat a PB&J potato chip in a heartbeat. I headed over to Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” page and shared their suggestions, and they created the bag images for us. They look pretty fancy (and appetizing), don’t they?!
As you can imagine, the kids had many more ideas and quite a few of them actually sounded really tasty to me.
Of course, if you’re a regular reader you know sweets are my favorite, so when I think of a chip flavor I’d love it would be something sweet and salty. I know Lay’s makes potato chips dipped in Milk Chocolate (I couldn’t find them near me and I’m afraid they’re not available anymore)! This brought to mind a family favorite that I grew up on- No Bake Cookies- and it was settled in my mind; No Bake Cookies is what I want to see made into a chip. The combo of sweet and salty with the flavor of chocolate, peanut butter and oats can’t be beat! These are so quick and easy to make that any time I get a knack for sweet and salty this is what I make.
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 cube butter
- 3/4 cup peanut butter
- 3 cups oatmeal
- In saucepan, heat sugar, milk, cocoa and butter.
- Bring to boil for 2 minutes stirring constantly. (The time on this is VERY important. Boil for too long and the cookies will be very dry and crumbly. Boil to short and they’ll be mushy and may never harden up)
- Remove from heat and add peanut butter and oatmeal. Stir until mixed, then drop by spoonfuls on wax paper and let cool.
What are YOUR favorite recipes you’d love to see as a new Lay’s potato chip flavor? Head over to Lay’s and submit your idea. Simply share the flavor name, up to three ingredients, and the chip style (Lay’s Original, Wavy, and/or Kettle Cooked), and a brief description for the flavor. With a grand prize as fabulous as this, how can you pass up entering?! Contest ends on April 5th, 2014!
