I received a Target gift card to purchase LISTERINE® Brand products from Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. and The Motherhood as part of my participation in the LISTERINE® 21-Day Challenge. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this post are my own.
So it’s been 21 days since we began the Listerine challenge (using Listerine toothpaste, flossing and using mouthwash twice a day). They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, and I think I’m pretty much there. I can say without a doubt that I am SO glad I did this. My mouth has never felt fresher. As I mentioned in my post at the start of the challenge, I began Invisalign treatments over a month ago. With Invisalign I brush and floss after each meal (or snack), so you’d think my mouth would feel fresh all of the time. It used to, but now it only feels fresh when I use Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash. On the rare occasions I miss a rinse with Listerine I definitely notice a difference; my mouth doesn’t feel as fresh and I can’t wait to be able to rinse with the Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash when I brush next!
I have super sensitive teeth which require me to brush with a sensitive toothpaste, but I’ve started using the Listerine toothpaste to brush my teeth at least once a day. I like it so much better! I do use it to brush my Invisalign aligners every time now, however. I’d love it if Listerine started making a toothpaste for sensitive teeth too, and would honestly purchase nothing else, ever.
Another awesome thing about the Listerine toothpaste… One thing I noticed after getting my Invisalign aligners is that after a bit, the aligners started to get an odor. It makes sense, since they’re worn for 22 hours of the day (day and night). Of course I googled it and found that this is very very common, and also read a bunch of different ways to get rid of the odor. I tried nearly everything and found nothing that worked well. Since using the Listerine toothpaste on my aligners and rinsing regularly with Listerine I am thrilled to say I have zero issues with odor. Yes, zero!
You know that not-so-fresh feeling in your mouth when you wake up in the morning? I don’t have that. Seriously. The combination of Listerine toothpaste, flossing, and Listerine mouthwash is awesome!
I know some have an issue with the burning of the Antiseptic Mouthwash (my husband, for one). I, too, struggled with that at first, but it didn’t take long before it lessened. It’s far easier to use it now than it was at first. I guess it’s kinda like working out… Feel the burn and you know it’s working, right? 😉
So obviously I have come to love Listerine products, but what about the rest of my family?
My husband has used only 1 kind of toothpaste for practically his entire life. Since the day we got married and I started doing all of the shopping I could only buy him one kind of toothpaste. I’ve tried a few times to switch him to something else and been met with major resistance, so much so that I quit trying. It’s been 11 years, so I am in complete shock when I say that he’s switched to using Listerine toothpaste exclusively, and so quickly too. It’s not because of my prodding, at all. He did this all on his own. I’d love to say he embraced the entire challenge and started flossing twice a day and rinsing twice a day, but I can’t. However, I’m stoked he’s made any effort at all, and maybe I’ll be able to get him to be better about it one of these days… Perhaps if I put the floss and rinse next to his toothbrush he’ll be more likely. I know that’s helped me, having it in sight while I brush.
As for my kids, their teeth and gums are much healthier too. They finally look forward to brushing their teeth so they can use their rinse. Since it removes food particles they miss when brushing (and tints those food particles, showing little chunks of bright blue when they spit out the rinse), it’s given my kids a good look at how bad and lazy they can be when they brush sometimes, and they have tried harder to be better about brushing. They call me in to look in the sink so I can give them props on their good brushing with the lack of chunks in the sink. I love that it’s given them fun accountability that I had previously struggled to give them.
I’m so glad we’ve had the chance to participate in this challenge. Fostering good oral care habits is important, and I really want my children to learn this now so they’ll have healthier teeth as they grow and when they’re older.
If you haven’t already taken the Listerine 21-Day Challenge, it’s not too late!! Head to Target and get some LISTERINE® WHITENING® Original Gel Fluoride Anticavity Toothpaste, REACH® Floss, and LISTERINE® Antiseptic. If you have kids, grab some LISTERINE® SMART RINSE® (antiseptic for kids 6+). Like I said, it only takes 21 days to develop a habit, and this is one habit you’ll be glad to have! Rinsing with the mouthwash only takes an extra minute a day-you can do this while you apply your makeup, do your hair, or get dressed!
Need another incentive in joining the Listerine 21-Day Challenge? You can help children in need! For every person who posts a “Swish Selfie” to LISTERINE® Brand’s Facebook page, LISTERINE® Brand will make a $5.00 contribution to Oral Health America’s Smiles Across America® program, up to $85,000, toward their goal of connecting 210,000 children with needed oral health services in 2014!
