Luxurious New Bedsheets- Organic Cotton Sateen Sheet Set from Gaiam Review| 2014 Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Organic sateen beddingI was sent the follow product for review purposes.  All thoughts expressed are my own.

I love sleep. A lot. There, I said it. I’m a full time, homeschooling mama of 4 kids, so you can probably see why I love sleep so much.  I don’t get much of it, but I love it when I do.  It’s important that the sheets on ones bed are comfortable.  We have a bamboo set that we love (they’re cozy like jersey… I am getting groggy just thinking about laying on them), but the other sheet sets we have are not cozy.  It’s pretty hard to live with only one set of sheets. I hate laundry. I’m a mama who lets a load sit in the dryer or those clean clothes sit in a hamper for a few days to avoid folding them.  Plus I do enough laundry as is, let alone having to scurry to wash sheets, dry them and get them back on the bed in one day.  Hate it.  We needed a new set of sheets as comfortable as our bamboo sheets, and I wanted some pretty ones too. Yes, pretty was a must. :)  I was so excited to be able to review a set of Organic Cotton Sateen Sheets from Gaiam!

organic sateen sheetsThese sateen sheets have a luxurious 350 thread count, and the silky organic cotton premium bedding has a subtle sateen sheen.  They are woven from soft, 100% organic cotton and available in 12 gorgeous colors created from low eco-impact dyes.  I had the hardest time choosing between the iron, rattan, and teal colors, but with the help of my husband we decided to go with teal- a nice bright change from the brown we currently have.

The sheet set included one flat sheet, one fitted sheet and two king pillowcases with a beautiful decorative hemstitching.  I was also pleased to see that the fitted sheet has 17″ deep pockets; we have a Tempur-pedic mattress that is very deep, and we’ve had the hardest time finding sheets that will go over the corners and stay put.  We loved the fit and the look of the sheets on our bed, but the true test was how they would feel sleeping on them…

Yes, our walls are a hideous green. We're repainting. Any suggestions on color? :)

It was a bit hard to get used to at first, only because we were so used to the jersey softness of our bamboo sheets.  These sheets were definitely cozy, but the sateen finish made them a bit more slick than we were used to.  We quickly found out we liked that though.  We live in Arizona where it gets pretty hot during the day.  Our a/c is kept higher than we’d like in order to save on our electric bill, so sometimes sleeping at night can be a bit warm.  The organic cotton with sateen finish of the sheets actually allowed us to sleep quite a bit cooler than we had been- something I found very refreshing.  Considering the fact that I have to sleep with a blanket, it was nice not to overheat on these sheets!

Another awesome additional feature to these sheets is that they are created in a socially responsible and environmentally friendly way. The Organic Cotton Premium Sateen Bedding meets dyeing and finishing requirements for the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). The GOTS covers the production, processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, exportation, importation and distribution of all natural fibre products. This means that not only is it made from organic cotton, but our bedding is also created with eco-friendly dyes and finishers, has low VOC content and meets social as well as environmentally standards.

I have fallen in love with our new sheet set, not only for it’s comfort but also because it’s nice to have more than one to choose from. I’ve decided I want at least one more set, and since these Organic Cotton Sateen Sheets are so comfy and come in other gorgeous colors that I love, there’s no reason not to get one more set from Gaiam.

  1. Oh!!! I am needing some new sheets and have decided cotton is the way to go…the blends of whatever I have had (poly/microfiber) just aren’t cutting it! My mom has some ultra-soft, totally breathable, cool-yet-comfy sheets that I sleep on when I visit that I would love to pack up and bring home with me. They are super old, too, but in good shape. COTTON! And a decent thread count. These Gaiam sheets sound PERFECT to me! I want to check out their site and see what they have to offer…I wonder if they have a percale weave? Your review was PERFECT TIMING for me! Thanks!

  2. When you said that Gaiam sheets kept you cool on warm days, that made me very interested in checking out. I live in Southern California where it can get pretty hot and I am always in the lookout for sheets that will keep me covered but cool on those hot nights. I

These sheets would be great for be because I live in the south. The heat and humidity can cause me to get a little warm at night, so I would love the cool fabric.

  4. Julie Wood says:

Hot pink walls all the way!!! :)

  6. caitlyn says:

that turquoise color of sheets is gorgeous! I love a good sheet set… I love sleep as well. Comfy sheets are a must. I think you should paint like a beigey color. Or like a terra cotta orangey beige

    • I love your suggestion of beigey color… That’s what I was thinking, and that’s what I have in color swatches. Now I just need to buy it! :) It will go nice with the teal sheets too. They are even more gorgeous in person!!

      • Caitlyn says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking. My father in law wants to paint Pur house a mauve but I think I’d rather the orangey.

  7. These sheets look like they would be very comfortable. I love all the vibrant colors choices to choose from.

  8. I need new sheets and the plum colored would be perfect and I love that the sheets are organic.
