As I said above, sweet potatoes hold a special place in my heart and not just because they taste amazing. My dad (who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in the summer of 2011) always made the sweet potatoes for our holiday meals and they were the BEST. He gave me his ‘original’ recipe many many years ago, but it’s not what he’d made for the past many years of his life and, sadly, he never wrote down his recipe. The original is the recipe I still make, and though it’s not exactly like my dad’s (not sure even if I did have his recipe it would be the same without him making them), this recipe is still fabulous and our family loves it. So… Dad’s Candied Yams recipe.

  1. Thanks for the mention, Alesha! Love your story about your dad’s sweet potatoes. What a nice tradition to keep his memory alive every holiday. Have a wonderful American Thanksgiving!
