Thanksgiving is next week. NEXT WEEK! Sooooo, for my feature this week I decided to go with TWO amazing recipes from last week. One which I plan on making as a new recipe to bring to Thanksgiving this year, and the other which is my all-time-favorite Thanksgiving side dish (and which I make each year for Thanksgiving since my dad passed away and can no longer make it).
First, Emily from A Little Bit of Emily shared a recipe for Pumpkin Squares. Pumpkin with cream cheese frosting… LOVE! Can’t wait to try this!
And again, Julie from Running in a Skirt shared another awesome recipe with us last week! Her Mom’s Famous Sweet Potato Casserole looks fabulous, and it touches my heart a bit because our recipe stories run along the same vein. Check out her post for the recipe and the story behind it.
Don’t forget to check out Mary @ Eat Drink & Be Mary‘s feature this week too!
My dad was the sweet potato king in our family. He made the sweet potatoes every Thanksgiving and Christmas. They were seriously the best sweet potatoes ever, and I never hesitated to tell him how much I loved them. I looked forward to them every holiday, and made myself sick on them every.single.time. As a gift to me one year for my wedding anniversary, he made me a small pan of them. One of the best gifts ever!!
He gave me his ‘original’ recipe (Candied Yams) many many years ago, but it’s not what he’d made for the past many years. I have no idea what his secret was, since I never expected to have to ask him so soon. Since his death in 2011, I’ve been the one to make the sweet potatoes for the holidays for our family dinners. I use his ‘original’ recipe and so far I haven’t figured out his secret, but hopefully someday- with further attempts at tweaking and experimenting- I’ll get it close to his to-die-for recipe. Until then, these are still pretty amazing! (Photo below shown without marshmallows.)
