Get peaceful rest with SOUND+SLEEP: Review and giveway ($130 value)! {2011 Holiday Gift Guide}

You can imagine the noise that goes on in our house with 4 kids and a dog.  Even at bedtime, it often takes a while for the house to quiet down and the kids to go to sleep; they need a bit to wind down, and for some reason the neighborhood cats think night time is the time to walk the walls of the neighborhood and drive the dogs nuts, making it hard to fall asleep and get a good night’s rest.

Then there’s nap time… Connor is the only one who naps frequently around here.  It’s impossible (and unfair) to keep the other 3 kids silent while he’s napping.  Add in outside noise (such as the school bus that stops directly in front of our house to pick up and drop off kids) on top of the noise of his siblings, and poor Connor can’t always get peaceful rest.

When I heard about the SOUND + SLEEP unit, I knew it was something we’d have to try. I was even more intrigued when I saw all of the neat features it has!

  • Power and Timer Buttons: Play all night or turn off in 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes
  • Volume Control Buttons:  Easy to use one-touch volume controls (up/down)
  • SoundStory Selector: Ten non-repeating sound profiles to help you sleep better
  • Adaptive Mode Button: Exclusively listens and adjusts compositions to mask noise
  • Display Button: Lights can be turned on or off for easy nighttime operation
  • Richness Button:  Adds depth and character to SoundStories, under user control

As soon as it came I used it during Connor’s nap. I was shocked at how fast he fell asleep, and how long he slept! It really did drown out the sound.  One of the features I really like is the Adaptive Mode Button; it really does increase the volume when it senses outside noise, helping to mask those sounds and keep you asleep!  It definitely works for Connor, which makes him less grumpy, thus making us all less grumpy!

It is so nice to know I can put Connor and Erik in bed at night and know they’ll be peacefully lulled to sleep. With those two quiet, it helps Brooke and Logan fall asleep faster as well. Many times as I’ve gone in Connor and Erik’s room to check on them, I’ve found myself being relaxed by the sounds of the SOUND+SLEEP, and could seriously lay down on their floor and go to sleep myself.

There are only a few things I would change about the SOUND+SLEEP unit to make it even better!
-First, the buttons click when you push them.  Normally this wouldn’t be in issue, but with a baby who doesn’t sleep super heavy, it would be nice to be able to adjust the sound once he’s asleep without fear of the clicking noise waking him (which has happened)! I’d love to see buttons that don’t click when pushed!
-I would love to see this come with a remote so I could adjust the volume or set the sleep timer remotely rather than having to walk into the room to do it.  Walking in the room causes Connor to stir, and if he’s already awake, he wants me immediately.  If I could turn it on remotely, there’s a good possibility he’d go back to sleep for a while longer.
-The sleep timer is great to set since I don’t want the unit running all night, but it would be awesome to have a timer to be able to set it to turn on as well. For instance, I’d love to be able to set it to turn on on garbage days, when the garbage man comes in the morning early enough that we’re not ready to be up, yet late enough that if Connor wakes from the noise, he won’t go back to sleep!

As I stated, the above suggestions would only improve the SOUND+SLEEP unit, but we really love it and I’m so thankful to have it! The SOUND+SLEEP machine has a permanent spot on the dresser in Connor and Erik’s room, and I’m seriously considering purchasing one for each of my other kids’ rooms, as well as my own! Yes, we love it that much!

This is a great gift for loved ones on your list!  Aside from being super neat (and a life-saver for us), SOUND+SLEEP has so many great health benefits! Many people suffer from sleep disorders. Disrupted sleep causes fatigue, which can result in many problems in day to day life.  The SOUND+SLEEP is a great alternative to sleeping pills to help you get a good night of rest and avoid insomnia and fatigue.  It will help boost your energy, feel alert, improve your health and promote your body’s natural defenses with a better night’s sleep.  It’s the perfect sleep aid!
