Spring Fever Sponsor: Rubbermaid *upcoming giveaway!*

When we moved into our house from our condo quite a few years ago we began recycling.  At the condo there was no recycle garbage can, but at our house we have 2 garbage cans that the city picks up weekly; one is for regular trash, the other for recyclables.  Of course this means two different garbage cans in the house too.  Our regular trash can we have under our kitchen sink, but the recycle can has always been out in the open.  I hated having it out in plain sight.  Not only was it an eyesore, but it made for much easier access for my adorable stinker of a toddler, who loves to get into anything and everything.  But we no longer have to worry about that anymore… Introducing the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler!

I was pleased at how easy is was to install the hidden recycler. Assembly is just 3 pieces, and hooks over a cabinet door.  It can also be screwed into the door if you’d prefer, but since I am not sure I plan on leaving it where I currently have it, I opted to hang it for now.  My plan was to put it under the kitchen sink on the opposite side of our regular trash can.  I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to put it there;  It’s just a bit to deep, so on one side it won’t close because it hits the pipe that drains from the kitchen sink, and on the other side it won’t close because it hits the garbage disposal.  Thankfully we have other cabinets it will fit on, and so for now it has a good home in another kitchen cabinet.

There are so many great things I love about the hidden recycler.  It is a 5 gallon bag- holding up to 36 12-ounce cans- and can fit a milk jug.  The bag has a leak-proof liner- so no worries about things leaking out of it- and it’s also machine washable, taking care of any spills inside of it and eliminating the worry of the nasty smells that come with garbage.  The bag and all packaging is made from recyclable material, making the product itself recyclable as well!  Most of all, I love that it has a handle, making it easy to carry and dump.

While it’s not as large as our other recycle trash can, it is perfect for us.  Sure, we have to take the can out more often, but this way all 3 of the older kids can carry it out on their own because it’s small enough and light enough for them.  And, the new can hidden out of sight and out of Connor’s reach!

  1. That would be SO much nicer than the brown bags we use at home. Our recycling is every other week so it really piles up! Oy!

  2. This would be much nicer than seeing bottles and cans on the counter top awaiting their trip to the big bins in the garage.

  3. We've started recycling around our house on a regular basis and this would definitely come in handy. Our recycling really piles up quickly!

  4. I would love to have a set of Bento Boxes to organize my craft room.

  5. I need this recycler real bad. We are a HUGE green family and the removable 5 gallon bag is something we can benefit from. I am constantly going to the garage to take out the recyclables. I'm wearing out the concrete. Hee-hee-hee!

  6. This would be perfect for our new house. We really have no good place to put recycling so i have to take it out to the garage every time or it piles up in front of the garbage can. This would save me all those trips.

  7. I like that is hidden so it will go well or match well in your kitchen.

  8. I love that it keeps everything all contained. This would be awesome to help keep my 14month old out of our current recycling (open garbage pail). =)

  9. We really need this so we can start recycling plastics and paper. Right now we have no room in our kitchen to place a container to sort them out in. This would be perfect!

  10. This would be great because now I just use a small garbage bag hanging on the back door, which makes it hard to open the door! It's really convenient to carry out to the dumpster. I wonder if it would fit on my cabinet door? I hope to be able to find out!

  11. love how easy it is to use, we do recycle.

  12. Love that it is machine washable and it looks so easy to use.

  13. I love that you can put it under your sink. Makes it easy! Also, we recycle cans, but I hate them being out and viewable. Thanks!

  14. We currently recycle but only paper, cardboard and plastic. We'd use this for cans/glass as they're usually filled with sugar that would attract pests, once it's covered and elevated it'll be easier to hold them.

  15. This would simplify our recycling so much! Right now, I just pile up what has to go in the recycling bin and bring it outside when the pile is big enough (usually dropping a few boxes or cans along the way…). I like the hooks, no need to drill holes and you can easily move it around.

  16. We don't currently recycle, but this would get me headed in the right direction!

  17. We recycle a lot and this would be wonderful to get me better organized.
