Spring is finally here, and Summer will be here before we know it. These warmer temperatures mean more outdoor time for our kids, which also means more exposure to the sun. We know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun’s harmful rays, but did you know it’s just as important to protect their eyes as well?! The sun’s harmful rays present as much danger to your children’s eyes as it does to their skin. Children’s eyes are at increased risk for permanent eye damage from sunlight until they’re at least 10-years-old – damage that can cause blindness!
Real Kids Shades has teamed up with Prevent Blindness America to raise awareness about the need to protect children’s eyes from the damage caused by unprotected exposure to the sun’s UV rays. They sent me a ton of information on the importance of protecting children’s eyes from the sun, as well as the features and benefits offered from their sunglasses. Plus, my children were each able to choose a pair of sunglasses from Real Kids Shades to review!
Living in Arizona we get more than our fair share of sun. I usually try to be sure the kids have sunglasses, but not long ago 3 of my 4 kiddos either lost or broke the sunglasses they had. They were all thrilled to get a brand new pair from Real Kids Shades. After reading even more about the dangers of the sun on children’s eyes, I was more thrilled than they were.
Real Kids Shades offers sunglasses for kids from babies to 12 years old, and some of the styles sold can be fitted with prescription lenses by a vision care professional. Real Kids Shades has taken steps to be sure all of their sunglasses are kid friendly. All are made in a wrap style for a closer fit which minimizes peripheral light, and each pair has 100% UV protection (UVA & UVB) to 400 nanometers. They are shatterproof and impact resistant with lightweight frames. Best of all, they’re durable- able to stand up to even the toughest kid- and getting you your money’s worth and more! They’re designed and manufactured to be outgrown before they’re broken. If you need more convincing, Real Kids Shades offers a 100% replacement warranty, no questions asked!
Baby and toddler styles come with an adjustable band to help keep the sunglasses comfortably and securely on your child’s head; no pointy arms or hinges that could cause discomfort for your little one! Even some of the bigger kids’ styles come with a removable strap based on the needs and desires of your child.
Connor chose the My First Shades Toddler Shades in the green frogs style. They’re an awesome green color, and the green band features tons of adorable little blue and yellow frogs. Connor was so excited to have his own glasses, but even more so when he saw the frogs on them!
The band is easy to adjust with a Velcro strap and is made of soft material for your child’s head.
Erik choose the Flex Duo in the Navy/Orange color.
Brooke choose the Flex in pink (of course)!
And Logan chose the Xtreme Chill style in white.
These come with a great case to protect them when not being worn, which he loves, and they have comfortable foam padding on the inside of the lenses.
Aside from all of the great features listed above, Real Kids Shades are affordable at $15 to $20 a pair. Sure, you can buy cheap kids’ sunglasses elsewhere, but unless they have many of the features that Real Kids Shades provide, they will not adequately protect your child’s eyes! Unless they have 100% UVA and UVB protection, they will relax pupils, causing them to dilate and let more harmful radiation into children’s eyes. Be sure you are properly protection your child’s eyes! Check out Real Kids Shades and find the perfect pair for your child!
