Being a Mom Can Be Easier

Being a Mom Can Be Easier

This post was written by Laura Johnson

Few women dream of growing up to become their mother. But it’s a pretty common experience. Life tends to just happen as we go about things. And before you know it, you’ve taken on the same role. And in doing so, you usually realize something rather important.

Most women have had the experience of calling up their mom to, essentially, apologize for being such a difficult child. It’s a fairly normal thing to realize. When you’re young that’s the only perspective you have. But as you grow older, you begin to live through multiple experiences. By the time you’re a mother as well, you’ve had the perspective to really understand things. You begin to see why your mom made the decisions that she did. You essentially realize a very important lesson; being a mom is just plain hard work. And there’s no one-size-fits-all guide to making it any easier.

Steps to make things run a little smoother

The first thing to keep in mind is that there’s nothing that’ll make being a mom easy. That might sound like off-putting advice at first. However, the follow up to that is rather important. There’s nothing to make it easy; but there are ways to make it easier.

The first thing to keep in mind is that you don’t have to handle everything yourself. When it comes to the kids, you or your husband are usually going to be in charge. But even then, there are options for babysitting. An argument can be made that taking some time to just get away from it all can help build up the strength to bear it later with a smile.

But it’s also true for handling things when you’re at home. Say you see a mouse. Comparisons to old 1950s era cartoons aside, it usually is enough to make anyone say eek. But we’re modern women with a modern take on things. We often feel like adding that to the list of things we’re in charge of isn’t just a choice, but a necessity. And that can be true in a way. But handling things through, say, Moxie pest control Denver is still handling it. And that’s an important distinction to make.

People often feel that when they call for outside help, then the outside organization is the one taking care of things. But that’s seldom really the case. Proper delegation of authority is just how most things function in the modern workplace. Even companies outsource projects or services to other companies. There’s little reason to think that your own household shouldn’t benefit from the same idea.

Remembering to prioritize

Another thing that larger companies get right is the idea of prioritization. Basically, they put the most important things first. And the most important thing when running a household is ensuring that you make it safe. This is often easier said than done. But a lot comes down to just deciding what to handle on your own, and, of course, which things should be delegated to others.

One of the biggest things to keep in mind is that it’s not always about speed. Having the kids clean up some of their own messes is almost always going to be a slow process. But it’s something that teaches them important lessons. Not just about self-sufficiency, but also about what is and isn’t safe and how they can change their environment to promote safety.

But one should also consider halfway solutions. Something like vacuuming robots aren’t delegating things. But they’re not doing it hands on either. They often even need a little extra supervision. But again, this is another area where one can see children as a resource instead of an obstacle.

Working with a chore list

Having a firm chore list can also take a lot of the strain from one’s life. Kids, and even spouses, will often forget what they’re supposed to do. But having a set list makes it a lot more obvious. And it can ensure things stay fair too. As much as we like to think we’re unbiased, it’s inevitable for that to creep in.

Having a set rotating chore list ensures that nobody’s getting too much or too little to do. And it ensures that we’re being unfair with chore delegation. But if moms keep all of that in mind, it’s possible for things to be easier. Perhaps not easy, but easier is still pretty good.

  1. Hmmm!! A chore list has actually been a great idea that works for me. It has really improved my efficiency and made me a better mom.

  2. This is really a great article, i will let my wife read this. To reduce her daily stress
